David DeVore From The 2009 Viral Video ‘David After Dentist’ Mints An NFT Of The Beloved Classic, Set To Auction Off Next Week
Easily among the most viral videos to ever grace the internet, David After Dentist is an early meme culture classic that’s racked up more than 140 million views since it was first uploaded to YouTube in early 2009. It’s been quite a long time since then, and David DeVore himself, who’s now 20 years old, has grown up in the meantime.
Joining the ranks of the growing meme crypto art scene, David and his dad, who shot the original clip post-dentist visit, are slated to drop a special David After Dentist NFT later next week.
“We’ve dabbled in crypto during quarantine, and we came across NFTs because of that,” David told us in an interview this week. “David After Dentist has been an amazing ride since 2009, so why not?”
Ahead of their NFT release, we reached out to David to get some more information on what they’re planning to do with their entrance into crypto-collectibles, and while he said he has no idea what to expect from the end result, the recent sale of Zoe Roth’s Disaster Girl NFT for nearly half a million dollars shows the space is far from bursting its bubble.
“What we do know is that we are excited and want this to be another milestone of the fun ride we have had with David After Dentist,” he said. “We will be happy with whatever we get.”
And so it begins. Thanks for the warm welcome into the #nft space! It’s 2009 again!

Since February, meme NFTs have raked in nearly $2 million total, with new iconic memes and internet stars from yesteryear adding to the pool of meme collectibles each week in rapid succession. Many of the individuals we’ve spoken to about their crypto art have told us they see it as a digital art movement.
“It is amazing, fascinating and intriguing all at once because of the creativity behind it,” David said. “At this point, it is a wild guess for any of us to attempt to determine where this can all go — but I do believe it is indicative of the future. For us, it is not about ‘getting in on it’ but rather asking, ‘why not?’ From day one, we have had so much fun with this video, so why not keep having fun and see what happens? And again, we really have no expectations. We are grateful for every opportunity.”
The auction is currently set to kick off this upcoming Thursday on May 6th at 4 p.m. EST via the digital art platform Foundation. According to David, the NFT is the full, original David After Dentist video from 2009.
Since many of these viral meme creators and celebrities have gone on to produce collaborations and other crypto art after the original meme’s sale, we asked David if they had any plans to release more NFTs down the line, but for now, it seems this is their only one in the lineup.
“Let's wait and see what happens next week! Then ask me again.”

Isn't this NFT shit basically the next step in evolution of people trading rare pepes?

NFTS NEED TO DIE

This trend needs to die.

The most egregious thing about NFTs isn't their power drain, their theft of work, or even their gobbling of graphics cards. It's the fact it reinforces the idea that scarcity creates value instead of value creating scarcity. The former is a purely social construct, the latter is an objective fact of economics. The value of NFTs only exist as long as people want them to exist, and the last time we had a situation like that we experienced one of the worst market crashes since the Great Depression.

No no let me guess
After SEGA got all that shit about NFTs, we are going to give this a free pass.
Well I'm the first comment, so NO. NO FREE PASS. BAD NFT. BAD for environment. BAD.
P.S. I would not be saying this if I was the one selling the NFT because fuck you I want money. Also all of you would too.
Anyway, WHAT A HORRIBLE PERSON FOR DOING THIS.
