Dave and Buster's, a chain restaurant best known for its wide variety of arcade games and bar food, is the latest American institution to embrace gambling, according to a report from NBC.

As anyone who has tuned into any American sporting event or sports-themed television broadcast in the past few years will know, gambling has recently developed an outsized place in popular culture, and not everyone's a fan.

Even disregarding the two high-profile gambling scandals that have rocked professional sports in the past month, many regard gambling as a dangerous vice, and their arguments are buoyed by the lengthy disclaimers and lists of "gambling addiction" services that accompany every commercial for a gambling service.

That Dave and Buster's is integrating gambling into its lineup of attractions has many people fearing society is, for lack of a better term, cooked.

To be clear, it would be extremely difficult to lose one's life savings by betting on arcade games at Dave and Buster's if one goes about it in the way the restaurant is offering.

Dave and Buster's will let adults bet a maximum of $5 on arcade games through their app. Of course, there's nothing stopping someone from betting their house on a game of air hockey, but that's another matter.
