Controversy Brews On Social Media After 'Libs of TikTok' Creator Chaya Raichik Gets Job In Oklahoma Department Of Education
Chaya Raichik, better known by the handle of her popular Twitter / X account Libs of TikTok, has a new gig: adviser to a state library committee in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters eagerly shared the news on Twitter yesterday, making clear the ideological reasoning behind the curious selection.
Walters wrote, "No one has done more to expose what the radical left is all about than @ChayaRaichik10 and @libsoftiktok. Her's is a powerful voice to protect Oklahoma kids from porn in schools and woke indoctrination."
Critics have pointed out that Libs of TikTok and Walters himself have been accused of inspiring bomb threats against Oklahoma schools.
In August last year, a Tulsa, Oklahoma elementary school received two bomb threats the day after Libs of TikTok posted a video of the school's librarian joking she was pushing her "woke agenda" on kids.
In the post, the librarian wrote, "My radical liberal agenda is teaching kids to love books and be kind." Walters reposted Libs of TikTok's video attempting to "expose" the librarian saying, "Woke ideology is real and I am here to stop it." Around the same time, bomb threats were called into the school.
This came just days after a Davis, California school received bomb threats after they were posted about on Libs of TikTok.
The infamy of Raichik's account led many on social media to find her appointment to a position in the Oklahoma Department of Education alarming. Some Oklahoma residents were not thrilled that Raichik appeared to take pride in inspiring bomb threats.
Raichik does not live in Oklahoma, but rather in Brooklyn, New York. She is also a real estate agent and seems to have no prior experience in education.
As reactions poured in online today, Raichik said the "liberal meltdown … has been insane" in response to the backlash.
The liberal meltdown over me joining @RyanWaltersSupt to rid schools of p*rn has been insane. Why are they so desperate to keep p*rn in school? 🤔 https://t.co/kXRNMRWKRh

Others on Twitter / X notably celebrated the move, sharing various memes and reactions applauding her appointment.

"Libs are outraged about my quest to rid schools of porn. Why are they so desperate to keep porn in schools?!?!?!??!!!1"
Because your definition of porn includes the dictionary.

Porn in schools makes for a strong casus belli. No one decent wants to expose prepubescent children to sexual content. But we can see here that the casus belli morphs into a carte blanche to target anything deemed inconvenient, and should one seek to defend those elements wrongly targeted for censorship (such as the diary of Anne Frank) then one inevitably finds oneself standing opposite those pushing the initial casus belli.

I don't think this quote even really applies. The danger is not that they're going to start with getting rid of actual porn from schools, but once they're empowered to do that they'll start getting rid of other things too. The reality is that there is no porn in schools. It's a made up boogeyman to make herself look reasonable. They just refer to anything to do with any LGBT content as "porn" because that makes it easier to attack, but it is just LGBT stuff they're going after, not porn.
*sigh*
Back when I was in school (which was well over a decade ago at this point, mind) I was a book reading FIEND, and even back then there were some Fiction books I ended up borrowing from the school's library that featured graphic depictions of sex in them, and none of them were LGBT. I guarantee you that those books would not be welcome under this governance either.

Y'know, I remember Oklahoma being a hellhole when I went to basic, but I assumed that was because I was… in basic.
Evidently that's just how the state is. Go figure.

Hank Hill was right about Oklahoma.

I would like to reiterate that the public education system in Oklahoma is barely holding it together as it is. I get the impression they only do this to distract from decades of corruption and mismanagement that have rendered it barely functioning.

Wait, you can do remote work in the state government to states you have never been to?
And here I thought you needed to live in the state you have control over.

What a joke of a government oklahoma has, no wonder it’s such a shithole

What the hell is going on in Oklahoma these days, anyway? Just in the last week I've seen the 'Send animal control to take away the furries' bill, the 'All hispanics are terrorists' bill, a bill to criminalize all 'viewing and sharing of sexual images by any unmarried people' and now whatever this is. Is this really the sort of bullshit Oklahoma republicans think their constituents want them focusing on? Sorta feels like we have bigger problems to deal with.

Wait what the fuck? What's with the hispanics bill?

The internet is leaking.
More seriously, describing what any given constituency actually wants can be difficult. Polls are biased at best and bullshit at worst. There is a steep problem with political illiteracy the leads to people treating politics like team sports while oblivious to the particular goings on. From there politicians run saying what people want to hear and then do whatever pleases them once in power. After voting, most constituents tune out of what is going at the public level on to focus on what's in front of them, oblivious to any malfeasance until it moves into their line of sight.
Is this what Oklahoma voters want? Most of them probably haven't even thought about it.
