Chrissy Teigen Leaves Twitter After Declaring It A Source Of Negativity In Her Life

Model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen, wife of singer John Legend and one of the most prominent capital-P Posters on Twitter, has evidently finally had enough of the social media site and deleted her account.

In a series of parting tweets, she related a familiar Twitter tale: the site she once enjoyed had become a source of negativity in her life.

"My desire to be liked and fear of pissing people off has made me somebody you didn't sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as!" she added. "Live well, tweeters. Please know all I ever cared about was you."

While people delete their accounts every day on Twitter, Teigen's dramatic exit exemplifies the "die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" arc many online celebrities go through in the age of milkshake ducks. Teigen's Twitter presence was celebrated through much of the 2010s, as multiple media outlets regularly compiled her tweets in listicles and roundups, calling her one of the funniest posters on the platform.

Public opinion started turning against Teigen in recent years—there was a particularly nasty episode in 2020 where some users mocked Teigen after she lost her child during birth and more recently, she became the brunt of jokes after telling about a time a waiter served her a $13,000 bottle of wine without disclosing the price.

"Honestly, I will be that person for you. it is fun to gang up on me. I see the convos that bring you together in your owning of me. I make it easy. have fun," she tweeted despondently at the time.

Teigen's departure caused her name to trend on Twitter, as users reacted with a mix of celebratory schadenfreude and disappointment at the bullying Twitter culture that seems to have inspired the decision.
