Cancellation Of 'Overwatch 2' PvE Mode Met With Heavy Criticism
In yet another in a long list of blows dealt to fans of Activision-Blizzard, the highly anticipated PvE (player vs. environment) mode for Overwatch 2, which many called the "only reason" for the game's existence, has purportedly been scrapped.
According to Blizzard, there wasn't significant progress made on the PvE mode, so it is getting canceled, which essentially made Overwatch 2 function as a DLC for Overwatch in the eyes of many, with gamers being quick to note that they essentially paid for a few cosmetic and character changes.
Gamers and detractors of Blizzard were quick to jump on this as proof that the developers had squandered their goodwill with the fans.
This was also used by critics to paint the company and dev team as incompetent, with the entire point of the game for some being the rumored PvE mode, which had several teasers over the past few years and nothing to show for it.
Memes were quickly made, with many negative reactions being posted and juxtaposed to the hype that people felt when talent systems and PvE mode were first announced.
