Hollywood actor Chadwick Boseman, best know for his role as Black Panther in the Marvel superhero franchise, has died of cancer aged 43.

The news of Boseman's passing was posted on his social media accounts on August 28th, 2020. Boseman was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2016 and battled with his illness for the last four years as it progressed to stage four. He died at his home, with his wife and family by his side.

A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and several more – all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T'Challa to life in Black Panther.

Boseman's illness was kept secret from the public. The actor is survived by his wife Taylor Simone Ledward who he secretly married before his death.

Boseman is best known for portraying King T'Challa / Black Panther in the Oscar-winning 2018 superhero film Black Panther and several other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His other roles include Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get on Up, and detective Andre Davis in 21 Bridges.

Friends, colleagues and fans of the late actor posted tributes on social media.

During his four-year battle with cancer, Boseman continued to work, starring in the 2020 American war drama film Da 5 Bloods directed by Spike Lee and the upcoming drama film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

He was visiting kids with cancer and cheering them up, while he was fighting cancer himself. God this is so sad, he was a wonderful man.

this is heartbreaking, honestly. he was an amazing soul. the strength he must have had to persevere through acting and being in the public face without anyone knowing what he was going through is just beyond me. you’ll be missed, man. rest in power.

"What? No way! He's way too young and fit for that! This has got to be some sort of trolling!"

"No, this can't be. Someone's trying to pull something on me."

Welp, I'm still having a little trouble believing it. Sad he went at that age. People in their 40's shouldn't have to put up with this sort of stuff, they should be watching their kids go through High School and College, not fearing terminal diseases. What is this? The Medieval times? I'm really getting concerned that it's been what? 30 years now? And nobody's found any way to just get rid of cancer?

Sorry if I sound a little rabid, I didn't expect to see this on the front page for at least another 20 years.

Imagine if this has happened just before Infinity War came out. Still sucks and it sucks they decided not to use him more but it could have been worse. I wonder what they'll do with the fanchise now. And before you go off on me about only caring about some silly movies, it was the man's life's work and is now his legacy, it matters.

I kind of hope they don't just hand off the role without any kind of explanation. In universe I'd like to see some creativity in passing his role to a new generation with a new character that isn't under the same name – maybe a jaguar or leopard title, seeing how both had black fur variants. The real problem is finding somebody who can carry the torch of their legacy, which might be possible if Chadwick had somebody they were either close friends when working with or would themselves have passed the role onto someday. IMO that would be the only proper way to pass on the "Black Panther role" without feeling like he was being replaced.

Well the Black Panther is basically the monarch of Wakanda. If somehow T'Challa died he would be succeeded by whoever was next in line or whatever the whole plot of the first movie was about. I mean shit, T'Challa WAS dead for five years so whoever was running things then would run them afterwards. His mother, sister, girlfriend, and best friend were all established characters I think.

Never cared much about the guy but he didn't deserve this.

He was fully committed to his roles in all those films despite his diagnosis, and kept going until they were all wrapped up. That's some true dedication to one's craft, and he has my utmost respect for that.
