Big Bird, the giant, fictional bird Muppet from Sesame Street, tweeted on Saturday that he had received his COVID-19 vaccine — similar to what we saw earlier this year with the Teletubbies vaccination card post.

As with seemingly all things vaccine-related, the tweet set off a firestorm of conservative outrage, as several politicians, including the vaccinated Ted Cruz, lobbed insults at the puppet.

While it may seem odd that Big Bird waited this long to get his vaccine, he is canonically 6 years old, and the FDA just approved vaccines for children aged 5-11. Also, as Big Bird pointed out, he has been getting vaccines for much of his life: in 1972, he was vaccinated against measles.

I kno this has nothing to do with this article, but Big Bird is literally the single most fun character from M.U.G.E.N.

I guess it's "technically" propaganda in the same sense that telling people to vote on election day or airing the Rememberance/Veteran's day ceremony is "technically" propaganda.

The reality is that vaccines are an objective public good on a societal level and are an objective public good on an individual level for most people who are not allergic or who would otherwise have complications (please talk to your physician if you think that applies to you.)

And something tells me that Big Bird isn't talking about mandates, which can be anywhere from a necessary evil to an absurd overreach, depending on how and why they're implemented.

Propaganda, perhaps, but not political propaganda. "Don't catch diseases" isn't really unique to any particular ideology or political viewpoint.

We need a Big Bird for Conservatives to help them understand that vaccines aren't scary.

Surprisingly children's cartoon characters and online influencers isn't working.

I will forever find it hilarious that American conservatives are on the anti-vaxx side, while conservatives in my country are pushing for vaccination for everyone.
This whole politicization of vaccination has been and still is an absolute shitshow.

American liberals are also antivax. Ask about which combo of essential oils and salt lamps the government doesn't want you to know about.

What America considers "leftists" would be a conservative party in any other developed country, so it checks out. Seriously, try running on a platform of providing sick leave to people and you're so far out in commie land that you're unelectable.

I'm not even disappointed, I'm more curious what the inside of someone's mind is like when they're accusing a fucking muppet of being propaganda. Like, there are so many hills to die on and they chose this.
