The men's and women's triathlons have run the past two days at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and while there are likely few people who could tell you they remember who won the races, there are likely many more who could tell you about the giant Gundam in the middle of the course.

This was thanks in large part to a BBC commentator absolutely butchering the word "Gundam," pronouncing it "Gandum," live on the air.

"It's some sort of famous robot," says the commentator rather dismissively. "The robot Gandum." He also called it "Gandum, the unicorn robot." He was technically correct there, as the statue is from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

The Gundam has been the literal biggest star of the Olympics for a certain demographic of Olympics watchers.

After the opening ceremony's video game soundtrack, it's safe to say this has been the nerdiest Olympics of all time.

Damn BBC removed it on copyright grounds like they do everything else. Long live the Crown I guess or some shit.

No idea why he pronounced it as "gan-dum" as opposed to "gun-damn", which is how you'd think it would be pronounced and even that is wrong still. Then again, we have place names like Frome and Loughborough that make no sense whatsoever pronunciation wise. Language, isn't it fun?
