As you may have heard by now, Sonic the Hedgehog is dead and Sega killed him (apparently leaving him in the Family Guy death post).

Sega quite possibly won April Fools' Day this year by releasing The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, a free-to-play visual novel mystery a la Ace Attorney and Danganronpa in which the object of the game is to find out who killed Sonic.

This turned out to be a treat for Sonic fans and haters alike, for while fans could celebrate that Sega had gifted them a new side game to play, haters could celebrate that, finally, Sonic had died.

Sonic has become one of the more divisive figures in gaming, for while he maintains a fanbase that is extremely passionate (perhaps a little too passionate), he's also garnered a legion of people who can't stand him, particularly because of his recent, lengthy track record of bad games and the infamous fan culture he inspires.

However, the Sonic team has proven themselves to be self-aware time and again, making The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog a widely celebrated April Fools' bit. Though we can't say for sure whether it's better than dedicating an entire day to Your Mom jokes, we'll admit that it certainly inspired a lot of memes and praise.

I hate when official Sonic shit tries to appeal to people who hate Sonic.
