As Harvey Dent once said, "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Over the past few months, this has been the case for several brands once thought of as conservative-coded, like Bud Light and Ford, as the companies have faced varying degrees of outrage for the perceived crime of "going woke" by acknowledging trans and gay people in their advertising. Now, it appears one of the world's most notable, outwardly "conservative" brands is the target of some in the anti-woke brigade: Chick-fil-A.

Chicken sandwich fast-food chain Chick-fil-A is famously guided by Christian principles, to the point where it closes for business on Sundays, and in the early 2010s stirred outrage by vocally opposing gay marriage. However, the brand recently committed what could be an egregious sin in the eyes of some of their conservative consumer base by hiring a VP of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.

Chick-fil-A's supposed slight of creating an executive job focusing on "ensuring access, valuing differences and creating a culture of belonging" for the brand was spotted by conservative Twitter user Joey Mannarino, who fretted about the hire by saying "This is bad. Very bad. I don’t want to have to boycott. Are we going to have to boycott?"

Mannarino also forecast that it was a "matter of time" before Chick-fil-A put the s---n of transgender people in its lemonade. Mannarino phrased his anxiety with a slur, and he has tweeted the same phrase multiple times while discussing Bud Light.

He posted a poll yesterday to his 160,000 Twitter followers asking if the hire was cause for a boycott. At the time of writing, "No" is narrowly beating out "Yes" after 42,000 votes.

Those supporting a boycott appear to believe that "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion," shortened to "DEI," is code for leftist brainwashing. DEI has long been an issue for some on the right, and was notably part of a widespread theory that it caused the Silicon Valley Bank failure.

Many others were baffled at Mannarino's moral panic and were gobsmacked at his apparent fascination with comparing things to the bodily fluid of transgender people.

Time will tell if Chick-fil-A hiring a VP of DEI affects their bottom line, but so far, none of the companies targeted by the so-called "Get Woke Go Broke" campaign have gone broke.
