After Addison Rae Backlash, Fallon Invites TikTok Dance Creators Onto Show
Last week, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon received a fair bit of backlash after having TikTok star Addison Rae perform some viral dances from the platform that she didn't create. It was a familiar tale of a TikTok dance gaining world fame while its creator still lived in obscurity, made all the worse by the comparison videos viewers created showing Rae getting largely outclassed by the dance's original creator. However, last night, Fallon addressed the controversy admirably by interviewing the creators of the famous dances.
"We recognize the creators of those dances deserve to have their own spotlight," Fallon said. Fallon brought on Mya Nicole Johnson, Chris Cotter, Dorien Scott, Fur-Quan Powell, Camyra Franklin, Adam Snyder, Nate Nale, Greg Dahl and Keara Wilson, each of whom started one of the eight dances Rae performed.
The interviews appear to have restored goodwill towards Fallon in the eyes of commenters. "Awesome that they recognized their mistake and gave these awesome creators a chance to talk about themselves and perform their dances!" wrote one YouTube commenter. "I know people will say that they're just course correcting but at least the creators are getting proper credit. A major network show can afford to take a hit but small-time creators deserve as much exposure as they can get," said another.
