A New Piece Of 'Shrek's Cringe Compilation' Lost Media Has Been Discovered
A new piece of lost media shedding more light on the mysterious origins of the Shrek's Cringe Compilation meme has been discovered, but it is still unlikely there is a full commercial to be found.
Last week, Twitter account Shrek History shared a double page HP ad featuring – you guessed it – Shrek holding a camera as if he is about to snap your picture and add it to his cringe complication.
The discovery, scanned by Shrek History from an unknown magazine, adds another piece of missing puzzle to the collection of lost media related to the meme's origins.
The search for the hypothesized HP commercial that the image originates from started in June 2018 and made some advances in 2022, including discovery images of Shrek holding the camera from a promotional HP booklet. The commercial has never been found, and as the search grinded to a halt, it has since been believed that there was no animated commercial in the first place – just a bunch of plain old 3D-renders.
And while the recent discovery does not provide any evidence to the contrary, it is still nice to find another piece of the puzzle which helps settle the meme's origin once and for all. Here it is in it's full grace.
As for the famous caption "SNAP Yep. This one's going in my cringe compilation," we know very well where it comes from.
