Zé Da Manga refers to a Brazilian viral audio of a man moaning "Zé da manga" that was combined with a 2019 catchphrase by a Brazilian Free Fire gamer. The meme was popularized in April 2023 on TikTok with trolling videos, parody music and dance trends based on the viral audio.

Origin

On December 23rd, 2020, YouTuber[1] @luisfelipe415 posted a video titled "ai ai zé da manga," featuring an unknown man moaning and calling for "Zé da manga" (English: "mango zé"). The video (seen below, garnered 116,000 views and 1,500 likes in three years.

Spread

On March 27th, 2023, YouTube[2] user uploaded an edited video of the Brazilian Free Fire player Nobru as if he is saying the words of the "Zé da manga" audio. The video (seen below), garnered 513,000 views and 5,100 likes in three months.

The next month, on April 2023, Brazilians started to use the sound for trolling memes. For example, TikTok[3] user @___so__resenha___ posted on April 20th, a Bart's testing megaphones meme using the "Zé da manga" audio. The post (seen below, left) amassed 1.4 million plays and 56,400 likes in one month. Teenager @maciel_emely3[4] gathered some friends to post a dance trend based on the viral audio. The video (seen below, right), uploaded on April 26th, received 2.6 million plays and 163,000 likes in a month.
