YTSunny's Super Mario Maker 2 Level refers to a playable map in Nintendo's Super Mario Maker 2 created by YouTuber and Twitter user YTSunny which grew notable for its high difficulty. A video run-through of the level later became paired with humorous captions describing what it's like to navigate a difficult situation.

Origin

On July 15th, 2019, Twitter user and YouTuber YTSunny posted a video of their Super Mario Maker 2 level, "1-1 but with a twist." The level is a play on the original 1-1 level from Super Mario Brothers, only YTSunny littered the stage with large rotating fire bars. In the video YTSunny posted, they completed the stage with a number of very precise and well-timed jumps. The video was most popular on Twitter, where it gained over 88,000 retweets, 281,000 likes, and 20 million views (shown below).

The video was quickly commented upon by Twitter users who were in awe of the level, saying that they "hated" it and it was anxiety-inducing. Twitter user @andykhouri^[1] reposted the video, writing "I hate this. I hate this like I haven’t hated anything for years. I hate this like I was born to hate this," gaining over 31,000 retweets and 116,000 likes (shown below, left). User @Pisces1221^[2] posted a GIF which read "Now that's what I call anxiety!", gaining over 150 retweets and 2,800 likes.

Others used the video as a reaction clip, adding humorous captions about navigating difficult situations. For example, Twitter user @robbie_couch tweeted the clip with the caption "the new york times avoiding the word 'racist'," gaining over 5,700 retweets and 28,000 likes (shown below, top). Comedian Roy Wood Jr. tweeted the clip with the caption, "Navigating racism when you walk out the house," gaining over 6,300 retweets and 25,000 likes (shown below, bottom). Jokes about the level were covered by Twitter Moments^[3] and Daily Dot.^[4]
