You're the Nicest Guy I've Ever Dated refers to several panels from the 2007 comic book Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together of the Scott Pilgrim series in which the character Ramona Flowers comments that Scott Pilgrim is the nicest guy she has ever dated. Starting in 2019, the panels gained popularity in ironic memes, with the last panel often replaced with various images.

Origin

On November 14th, 2007, Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together, the fourth book in Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series, was published.^[1] On November 13th, 2013, colored version of the book was released. In the opening pages of the book, main character Scott Pilgrim and his love interest Ramona Flowers are sitting on a bench, with Ramona commenting that Scott is the nicest guy she has ever dated, and Scott responding that "that is kind of sad" (panels shown below).

Starting in 2013, the panels have been repeatedly posted online on Reddit and other websites, particularly in the /r/me_irl subreddit. For example, a July 17th, 2014, post^[2] in /r/funny received over 3,400 upvotes in six months. A January 17th, 2019, post^[3] in /r/meirl received over 29,200 upvotes in six months. An August 30th, 2019, post^[4] in /r/me_irl gained over 35,200 upvotes in the same period.

Prior to their popularity as an ironic meme, the panels have been used as inspiration for redraws and remakes. For example, on June 28th, 2017, Tumblr^[7] user Moozua posted a My Little Pony redraw, later that image was reuploaded to Derpiboru^[5] receiving over 347 stars on the site (shown below, left).

On September 2nd, 2019, following a viral /r/me_irl repost, Redditor^[6] eldritchClockworld posted the first ironic meme based on the panels to /r/okbuddyretard, replacing the last panel with a cropped image of Yo Mama character Brody Foxx. The post (shown below) received over 8,100 upvotes in six months and was widely circulated online in the following days.

Starting in September 2019, the panels maintained moderate popularity as an ironic meme format, with users replacing the last panel with various non-sequitur images.
