About

Your Honor She Won't Stop is a series of memes, including image macros, using the 1860 painting The Advocate by Honore Daumier, which depicts a lawyer gesturing towards a smirking woman in a courtroom. As a meme format, the lawyer is often associated with a caption using a variation of the phrasal template "she won't stop X," and the woman is associated with a caption that represents "X." The meme was popularized on TikTok in April 2024 and gained viral spread over the following months on sites including Instagram and X / Twitter.

Origin

On April 6th, 2024, French TikToker[1] @scorp0428 posted a photo slideshow using an edited image of the 1860 painting The Advocate in which a lawyer is labeled what translates to "she went back to talk to him" over the lawyer and "I just wanted to get some news," garnering over 2 million views in two months (shown below). This is the earliest known iteration of the meme.

The meme became increasingly popularized on TikTok that month, using variations of the phrase "your honor she won't X" or "she won't stop X" over the lawyer. For example, on April 15th, TikToker[2] @cherryblossomseeds posted a version that gained over 11 million views in two months (shown below). It is unclear who first used the "she won't stop" variant of the meme.

Spread

The meme continued to spread over the following weeks. On April 21st, 2024, X[3] user @Cut4 posted a version of the meme that gained over 1,200 likes in two months. On May 7th, TikToker[4] @heeheerah_ posted a version of the meme using the caption "your honor she won't stop singing it," garnering over 1.2 million views in a month (shown below).

On May 18th, Facebook[5] user Im sad and that's rad posted a version of the meme referencing Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track "Not Like Us," garnering over 16,000 reactions and 7,500 shares in a month (shown below, left).

On June 1st, 2024, X[6] user @remisversion posted a version referencing the Taylor Swift lyric "touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto," garnering over 27,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).

Various Examples

The Advocate / Le Défenseur (Counsel for the Defense)

The Advocate, also known as Le Défenseur (Counsel for the Defense), is a painting from 1860 by French artist Honoré-Victorin Daumier depicting an advocate passionately arguing his case before a judge and jury while his client expresses a feeling of being slightly unabashed and defiant, appearing to humorously smirk or smile. The painting became one of Daumier's most well-known works, and in April 2024, it started to be parodied as an exploitable image macro on Twitter / X and TikTok via photo slideshows.
