Related Explainer: What Does 'You Really Think I Needed All The Guards At The Hexgates' Mean In 'Arcane?' The Viral 'CaitVi' Memes Explained

About

You Really Think I Needed All the Guards at the Hexgates is a memorable quote spoken by Caitlyn to Vi in Arcane season two, episode eight, revealing that she didn't need to send all the guards to the Hexgates and leave Jinx unguarded, but did so to give Vi an opening to rescue Jinx. The quote is followed by a sex scene between Caitlyn and Vi. As a meme, the quote is often used as a catchphrase alongside images of a blue object next to a red object, referencing the hair color of each character.

Origin

On November 23rd, 2024, Arcane season two, episode eight, "Killing Is a Cycle," aired.[1] In the episode, Caitlyn says to Vi, in a prison cell, "You really think I needed all the guards at the Hexgates?" The quote suggests that Caitlyn sent the guards away from their post guarding Jinx to let Vi see her again and attempt to rescue her. Caitlyn and Vi then have sex.

The scene went viral that day, with many fans, especially fans of the ship pairing between Caitlyn and Vi, celebrating it. For example, on that day, X[2] user @coraggiosoleone posted the scene, writing, "WE WON, #CAITVI NATION. WE WON," garnering over 34,000 likes in three months. That same day, X[3] user @mulyiddie posted a screenshot of the scene, writing, "she got rid of all the guards to fuck her girl. thats the kind of power i need," garnering over 3,500 likes in the same span of time.
