You Know, Black People refers to a TikTok sound and trend in which a male voice says, "You know, Black people," while a piano song (created by mistfulplays) starts playing. Another voice is also heard saying, "No, no!" The original video was posted by TikToker Tonys Statovci (@tonystatovci) in March 2024, concerning DEI and race-related conspiracy theories about the Baltimore Bridge Collapse. Going into April 2024, the sound was mostly used in skits and memes by Black creators who made self-deprecating jokes.

Origin

On March 27th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @tonystatovci posted a video that joked about "How the Baltimore Bridge conversation is going for some reason," showing a character saying, "You know, Black people," parodying reactions to Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott's press statement. The piano song from TikToker^[2] @mistfulplays also plays in the video. Over 12 days, the video received roughly 5.9 million plays and 980,200 likes (shown below).

After @tonystatovci's video went viral, users on the app started to use the video's sound^[3] for their own content. For instance, on March 27th, 2024, TikToker^[4] @sydneycarmichael used the sound to make a Baltimore bridge joke involving the Diddy lawsuits, gaining over 957,900 plays and 196,800 likes in 12 days (shown below, left).

On March 28th, TikToker^[5] @jadjadm posted a video with the sound, making a joke about, "me when I saw the interview of the two girls that said they'd rather find out their man is cheating than him be bi sexual," receiving over 1.2 million plays and 265,700 likes in 11 days (shown below, right).

On March 30th, 2024, TikToker^[6] @zaytashon posted the sound's most viral usage in its first 12 days, making a joke about, "When someone adds water to the soap because it's running low instead of replacing the soap," earning over 3.8 million plays and 895,900 likes in nine days (shown below).

By April 8th, 2024, the trend's primary TikTok sound^[3] had amassed over 6,600 posts.
