You Just Got Diggy Diggy Hole'd is a bait and switch video of the Engineer from Team Fortress 2 dancing along to PatientZero's song "Dwarf Hole (Diggy Diggy Hole),"[1] which is a remix of an improvised song sung by Simon of The Yogcast in a Minecraft Let's Play video.[2] It is used in a similar way as memes like You Just Got Hey Stinky'd and Get Stick Bugged Lol.
Origin
On February 3rd, 2011, YOGCAST Lewis & Simon uploaded a Minecraft Let's Play video. At around 10:04 in the video, Simon improvises a song while digging. This was remixed by YouTuber PatientZero and uploaded to the YOGCAST Lewis & Simon channel on August 15th, 2011, garnering over 22 million views in 9 years (shown below, left). On June 18th, 2014, YouTuber Eltorro64Rus uploaded a Garry's Mod Team Fortress 2 video featuring a clip of the Engineer dancing at 2:02 in the video (shown below, right). This is the clip used in the Diggy Diggy Hole'd meme.
On October 28th, 2019 YouTuber Driveway Toad[3] made a video combining PatientZero's audio with Eltorro64Rus's video, intending to share it on Discord as a Rickroll alternative. On March 23rd, 2020, YouTuber Random Discord Stuff[4] uploaded the video to their YouTube page, garnering over 115 thousand views in 7 months (shown below). The video features an intentionally deceiving picture of two anime girls for the purpose of bait and switching on Discord. The video was reuploaded by Konnectigag VR on March 30th, gaining over 307 thousand views in the same rough span of time.
Spread
As the YouTube uploads gained popularity, users across Discord started bait and switching each other with the video, giving it a misleading thumbnail. On YouTube, users started uploading new variations of the video. On May 1st, 2020, YouTuber Noblepika uploaded a 10-hour version of the video, garnering over 384 thousand views in 5 months (shown below, left). On June 19th, YouTuber Dazzlassies uploaded a version using a metal remix of the song, garnering over 3,000 views in 4 months (shown below, right).
On July 4th, 2020, Driveway Toad became aware of the meme's popularity, and described how it came to be in a video on their channel (shown below).
