About

You Have Enough X, But I Don't Have These X is an exploitable meme format using a panel from a webcomic published by artist K.Emon in late 2018 where one person sees a cat and desperately reaches to pet it as another person holds them back. The last panel of the comic became the subject of memes throughout 2022 in which the cat is replaced by another object that someone might be obsessed with and the text is recaptioned with the items.

Origin

On December 26th, 2018, webcomic artist K.Emon posted a comic to their Facebook[1] page, ByoutiEmon, garnering over 6,000 reactions and 1,800 shares in just over four years (shown below). In the comic, a person sees a cat that meows at them. The person then reaches out to pet the cat desperately while another holds them back, saying, "Stop." The comic gained viral spread over the following years, including a post to Tumblr[2] and Reddit's /r/wholesomememes[3] board that gained over 14,000 upvotes in two years.

On January 13th, 2022, Tumblr[4] user lifecyclesofmayflies posted an edit of the comic's last panel where the person reaches for a plant instead of a cat, garnering over 10,000 likes and 8,100 reblogs in a year (shown below). This is the earliest known edit of the image.

Spread

The format became increasingly popular over the following months. On April 24th, 2022, Tumblr[5] user vorejuiceguzzler posted a version of the meme referencing Among Us, garnering over 2,400 notes in a year (shown below, left). On February 13th, 2023, Facebook[6] page Masons' Cavies posted a version of the meme about guinea pigs, garnering over 1,000 shares and 5,900 reactions in a month (shown below, right).

On March 3rd, Instagram[7] user house_plant_community posted a version of the meme about plants, originally by Instagram[8] user wildjunkmind, that garnered over 18,000 likes in four weeks (shown below). On March 4th, Instagram[9] page my_country_corner posted a version of the meme about chickens that gained over 15,900 likes in the same rough span of time. On March 23rd, Tumblr[10] user sca-nerd posted a version about having medieval hobbies that gained over 3,900 notes in five days.
