You Can't Just Shoot A Hole Into The Surface Of Mars is a memorable quote from Doom Eternal. The character Samuel Hayden tells the line to the Doomslayer prior to a mission which ends in him firing the BFG into Mars. It has been parodied in numerous ways by Doom fans.
Origin
In Doom Eternal, the Mars Core mission requires the player to shoot a hole into Mars using the BFG 10,000. Prior to the mission, Samuel Hayden tells the Doomslayer, "You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars" (shown below).
Spread
On March 22nd, 2020, YouTuber Oyff posted a video in which Samuel Hyden says "You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars," followed by a compilation of gameplay which ends in the Doomslayer doing just that with the BFG-9000 (shown below, left). The video gained over 2.1 million views over the course of 2020. On March 23rd, user PanzSan posted a similar video, gaining over 3.2 million views (shown below, right).
The videos were the first of several showing Hayden saying the line and Doomslayer shooting the BFG into Mars. Others include an April 21st, 2020 video by 21 Ludos that gained over 5,000 views (shown below, left) and an April 8th video by Pleasant Kai that gained over 147,000 views (shown below, right).
The phrase has also inspired several image macro parodies. There were several Money Printer Go Brrr parodies of the scene, such as a March 31st post by RoboLoco51 in /r/doom[1] that gained over 1,900 points (shown below, left). User Dickatchu posted a That sign can't stop me variation on March 21st, gaining over 190 points in /r/doom[2] (shown below, right).
