About

Yellow Font Theory or Yellow Font BTW is a slang term and viral internet theory claiming that yellow font is used in the captions of online content, usually short-form videos, when a user is being emotionally vulnerable, honest and offering genuine, introspective thoughts. The theory was popularized on TikTok in December 2025 as users began sharing videos with emotionally vulnerable captions followed by a version of the phrase, "Yellow font btw" or "yellow font theory." The term is often used loosely and ironically, adding "yellow font btw" to videos with funny captions that are not meant to be genuinely emotional.

Origin

Yellow Font Theory is based on the idea that online content creators, mostly short-form video creators, use yellow font when writing captions that have emotional significance or express a vulnerability. A prime example of this can be seen in videos by TikToker[1] @ericcromartie who, throughout late 2025, started going viral by posting videos with emotional, honest or thoughtful captions in yellow font.

In November 2025, TikToker[2] @yellowfont.halfspeed started posting videos that poke fun at the idea of using yellow font in emotional videos, popularizing the trend of writing "yellow font" at the end of a yellow fonted caption.

One of the earliest notable examples was posted on November 23rd, 2025, captioned, "I'll never be the same again, but maybe that's the point yellow font," garnering over 1.3 million views in about three weeks.
