Yeah, We Gay, Keep Scrolling refers to a recurring catchphrase used in memes and fan art depicting two same-sex people or fictional characters hugging and pointing weapons at the camera. Originating from an October 2017 Instagram post, the catchphrase gained significant popularity online in the following years.

Origin

On October 8th, 2017, Instagram[2] user nonhomo posted a photograph, previously circulated in unrelated memes,[1] of two young men, one holding another in his arms and pointing two pistols at the camera, captioned "yeah, we gay, keep scrolling", with the second part of the caption advising the viewer to keep on moving throught their Instagram feed. The post gained over 1,100 likes in two years.

Between October 8th and 19st, 2017, now-suspended Twitter user @ugsadkid tweeted the image with the caption "Moonlight (2016)". On October 19th, 2017, Tumblr user evilrashida posted the screenshot of the tweet (shown below), with the post receiving over 4,200 likes and reblogs in two years.[3]



On November 16th, 2017, Tumblr user lowmp posted the first known parody of the image (shown below, left), gaining over 17,400 likes and reblogs in two years.[4] On December 20th, Twitter user @SpeedwagonStan made a now-deleted post comparing an intro animation from 2015 video game Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven to the image.[5] On December 22nd, 2017, Facebook page JoJo's Rainbow Adventure posted a screenshot of the tweet (shown below, right), gaining over 580 likes and 410 shares in two years.[6]



In the following years, the image was parodied in fan art and memes submitted by users on Tumblr, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit and other online platforms.
