About

YAYVIDEOGAMES Creepypasta refers to the mystery surrounding a Reddit user with the handle YAYVIDEOGAMES who appeared to go insane over the course of 4,000 comments which featured variations on the phrase "Ubisoft goes Steamworks bye bye. Always on DRM." The user also posted strange photographs until he was eventually banned from the site. The story has been mentioned as one of the internet's unsolved creepy mysteries in several posts since the incident.

Origin

On September 8th, 2010, a Reddit thread posted by iwishiwasameme[1] asked users to list some of their favorite Oblivion mods. In the comments, user YAYVIDEOGAMES[2] posted:

The uninstall button.
The game is great and all that, but god it is hard to fully remove all the junk it leaves behind on your system. You really need to check out that mod when the time comes to get rid of it.
Otherwise, I think Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is a nice start.

After another user pressed YAYVIDEOGAMES to further explain what he meant, they went on to write:

The uninstall button…The game is great, Ubisoft goes Steamworks bye bye, always on DRM. But you oft go work, always on work DR. Check out the junk it leaves behind in you.

YAYVIDEOGAMES then spammed the thread with variations on the phrase "Ubisoft goes Steamworks bye bye, always on DRM."

Spread

According to a later post on Amino Apps[3] covering the incident, YAYVIDEOGAMES also began posting surreal images unrelated to the phrase (example shown below, left), as well as an image of a handwritten scrawl of the phrase he continually repeated (shown below, right).

On September 23rd, 2010, a Reddit user compiled all the images YAYVIDEOGAMES posted in the thread.[6] A thread about the moment was posted to /r/creepy[5] on September 24th, 2010. The moment was covered in a thread on /r/gaming[4] roughly a year later. The moment was also mentioned as one of the internet's unsolved mystery by TheThings.com.[7] The moment was covered by YouTube channel Nightmare Expo on August 7th, 2016 in a video that gained over 410,000 views (shown below).
