Yanagi Walking or The Concept of Yanagi Walking is a series of memes from the gacha video game Zenless Zone Zero in which a green screen of the character Tsukishiro Yanagi is used to make Yanagi, or multiple Yanagis, walk over selected locations and "cross universes." The meme was popularized on TikTok in early September 2025, inspiring videos reacting to the memes and viral spread to sites like Reddit and X / Twitter.

Origin

On October 31st, 2024, the Zenless Zone Zero YouTube^[1] channel uploaded a video titled, "Tsukishiro Yanagi Character Demo – "99+ To-Dos" | Zenless Zone Zero," garnering over 1.5 million views in 10 months. At the 1:15 timestamp, Yanagi walks from the right side of the screen across a city street.

On August 2nd, 2025, TikToker^[2] @atomicfiasco posted an edit that begins with the walking clip, garnering over 157,000 views in a month.

On August 8th, the same TikToker^[3] @atomicfiasco posted an edit of Yanagi walking at night wearing a ghost face mask from the movie Scream, garnering over 190,000 views in a month.

Spread

The meme of Tsukishiro Yanagi from ZZZ continued to garner viral spread in late August and early September 2025 as it spread online.

For example, on August 31st, 2025, TikToker^[4] @imcludz posted an edit of Yanagi walking across scenes from the movie Brokeback Mountain, garnering over 400,000 views in five days.

On September 1st, the same TikToker^[5] posted a green screen of the walk, garnering over 119,000 views in four days.

On September 2nd, 2025, Redditor u/thabiso_animated made a post on the /r/ZZZ_Official^[6] subreddit sharing the walking clip, titled, "Why are people making edits of Yanagi walking on TikTok," garnering over 670 upvotes in three days.

On September 3rd, TikToker^[7] @zmevil1 posted an edit of Yanagi walking through the game Five Nights at Freddy's, garnering over 194,000 views in two days.

On September 4th, 2025, TikToker^[8] @jovannana3 posted a video reacting to the sudden virality of the memes, garnering over 550,000 views in a day.

Later that day, X^[9] user @yaedotwav reposted a video of a TikToker reacting to the meme and not knowing who Yanagi is, writing, "the concept of yanagi walking videos making it outside the zzz and hoyo bubble is insane to me 😭," garnering over 4,400 likes in a day.
