Some variations of the joke include "Wait til you go to hell for being transphobic" and "Wait til you go to hell for reviving indie sleaze," among others.

The meme format likely originated from a Facebook text post that read, "Y'all think it's hot today? Wait till you go to hell for f--king that lady husband." The earliest such post can be traced to the Facebook page Petty but Classy on July 16th, 2019,^[1] however, the earliest known image matching the meme template can be traced to an October 3rd, 2019, post on iFunny^[2] by user PrincessBubblegum (seen below).

The earliest known edit of the meme is a September 7th, 2020, post by the Tumblr^[3] page @gothgfwithasthma that garnered roughly 7,800 likes and 6,000 reposts in three years (seen below, left). A November 11th post by the Facebook^[4] page Aborted Dreams followed the template and gathered nearly 6,000 likes in a similar timeframe (seen below, left).

A June 27th, 2022, post by the Instagram^[5] page @pageformusicchads gathered over 5,000 likes for posting a version of the meme, while the Instagram page @masterofcum^[6] gathered over 1,000 likes for a version of the meme posted on April 14th, 2023 (seen below, right).
