On September 7th, 2024, Instagram^[1] user fashcism posted a Patrick Using a Vending Machine meme using the clip from SpongeBob SquarePants in which Patrick tries to put a dollar into a vending machine only to have it continually reject the money, captioned, "The founding fathers watching me cast my vote for Hawk Tuah Girl in November," garnering over 8,700 likes in two months. This is the earliest known meme about voting for Haliey Welch in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.

On October 9th, 2024, X^[2] / Twitter user @phlegmme posted, "PSA: Please don’t write in 'Hawk Tuah' on your ballot. I know it seems like a funny joke, but her legal name is Haliey Welch and putting down anything else could seriously jeopardize her chance at the presidency," garnering over 90,000 likes in a month.

On November 2nd, X^[3] user @sakuragicho_sta posted a photo of what appears to be a voting ballot with "Hawk Tuah" written in on the write-in option, captioned, "I voted✌️🇺🇸🦅," garnering around 650 likes in three days. Later that day, X^[4] user @GOOCLUMP reposted the image, captioned, "jus voted," garnering over 78,000 likes in the same span of time.

On November 4th, 2024, X^[5] user @PrDotFly posted a Minecraft: Story Mode GIF captioned, "Do I actually vote for Kamala or write in Hawk Tuah," garnering over 31,000 likes and 1,400 reposts in a day.

On the same day, X^[6] user @srothbell posted, "if I get to 6k followers by midnight I will write in hawk tuah for president," garnering over 1,400 likes in the same span of time.

CNN Article Hoax

On November 6th, 2024, X^[7] user @KonnyTalks posted a photoshopped screenshot of a CNN Politics article titled, "Over 75,000 of the counted votes were write-ins for 'Hawk Tuah' and 'Talk Tuah,'" captioned, "Nvm yall deserved what happened 😭," garnering over 9,400 likes in a day. The article is not real.

The image garnered viral spread over the next day. Later that day, Haliey Welch quote-reposted the fake CNN article on X,^[8] writing, "Omg this can’t be real 💀," garnering over 2,900 likes in a day. That same day, the meme was posted to /r/Idiocracy,^[9] titled, "we truly live in a country," garnering over 2,400 upvotes in the same span of time.
