Wow, That's Awesome is a catchphrase and sound effect that emerged from a TikTok trend in early 2023. After a video showing cows slipping on black ice with an AI-generated voice effect saying, "wow, that's awesome" was shared on TikTok, other users began using the sound effect to share the disturbing things they would watch and do as young children with internet access.
Origin
On January 18th, 2023, TikToker[1] @cutelittlepet369 posted a video showing a cow slipping on black ice. The video was set to an AI-generated voice that repeated the phrase, "Wow, that's awesome," cut with a voice screaming "Oh my god!" The video ended with the voice saying, "Careful, careful. Finally defeated." The video gathered over 500,000 plays and 79,000 likes in over two months (seen below).
The earliest known use of the sound effect was a TikTok video posted by TikToker[2] @alexgisawesome from March 10th, with a text overlay that read, "me at 5 years old watching back to back biggest tornado videos, deadliest viruses videos, yandere sim videos, [random subject] explained videos, inside the mind of a serial killer videos, finaf lore explained videos, ddlc theory videos, exploring abandoned buildings videos, cartoon network show explained videos, and what happens if [deadly senario] videos." The video gathered over 100,000 plays and 35,000 likes in four days (seen below).

On March 11th, 2023, TikTok[3] user @themaneaterbug posted a video using the sound and a text overlay that read, "me in fourth grade coming home after school to watch roller coaster derailments and school shooter documentaries for 6 hours straight." The video gathered over 300,000 plays and 96,000 likes in over three days (seen below, left). On March 12th, TikTok[4] user @cannababie posted a video using the sound effect, and a text overlay that read, "9 year old me looking up pictures of Chernobyl on the family computer everyday after school." The post gathered over 400,000 plays and 112,000 likes in over two days (seen below, right).
On March 12th, TikToker[5] @shinussy posted a video using the sound and a text overlay that read, "me at age 8 searching up different ancient torture methods and rollercoaster derailment videos on my school computer." The post gathered over 260,000 plays and 90,000 likes in over two days (seen below, left). Also on March 12th, TikToker[6] @slimystrummer posted a video using the sound and shared a disturbing childhood memory, gathering over 250,000 plays and 50,000 likes in over two days (seen below, right).
