Wot If Ya Mum Ran on Batteries is a copypasta used to mock the British science fiction television series Black Mirror. The intentional misspelling of the joke intends to imitate the British accent of the hypothetical writer.

Origin

On December 30th, 2017, Twitter ^[1] user @nicemuscles tweeted, "black mirror is written by one stoned british dude who just mutters shit like wot if ya mum ran on batteries." The tweet has since been deleted (shown below).

Spread

Following the post, people began sharing the comment in various other social media posts. For example, on January 1st, 2018, Twitter^[2] user @dangerfoodsex shared the phrase with a screenshot from Black Mirror (shown below, left). The trend continued over the next year on Twitter (example below, center and right).

On January 11th, 2019, Redditor ^[3] Sirrosstopher shared a list of mock descriptions of the show's fourth season. They titled the thread, "wot if ya mum ran on batteries." The post received more than 885 points (99% upvoted) and 110 comments in less than one year (shown below).
