Wonyoung Jumping out Of a Plane is a viral clip from the music video for the K-pop group IVE's song "I Am" in which idol Jang Wonyoung jumps out of a plane and dives through the sky. The clip struck many fans as humorous, leading to remixes and caption memes on social media in April 2023, some of which edited the scene to show Wonyoung crashing onto the wing of a plane or other objects after several flips.

Origin

On April 9th, 2023, Starship Entertainment released a teaser for IVE's upcoming single "I Am," featuring a shot of Wonyoung jumping out of an airplane (shown below, left). On April 10th, IVE released the music video for "I Am," gaining over 42 million views in one week (shown below, right).

Spread

Edits and jokes about Wonyoung's jump appeared shortly after the teaser. For example, on April 8th, 2023, TikToker @nyeongvrs posted an edit that gained over 3.7 million views and 890,000 likes in nine days (shown below, left). On the 11th, user @merryminji then posted an edit that had Wonyoung land on a car, gaining over 700,000 views in six days (shown below, right).

In particular, an edit by TikToker^[2] @portfolio_paulm that shows Wonyoung landing with a thud went viral on multiple platforms. The original TikTok, posted on April 13th, 2023, gained over 378,000 views in four days. A repost by user @.mxcolm gained over 1.9 million views and 446,000 likes in four days (shown below). The video was then reposted to Twitter that day by user @heartzdive,^[1] gaining over 557,000 views in a similar timeframe.
