Woman and Fat Guy at Sunset, also known as Blob and Psylocke at Sunset, refers to an image macro showing the silhouettes of a fat man and a woman standing in front of an orange sunset on a hill and the woman is holding the fat man's hand. The original image is a cropped version of the cover of the X-men Marvel comic book "Age Of X-Man: X-Tremists #3" which was released in 2019. Therefore, the fat man in the image is the X-men villain Blob and the woman is the character Psylocke. Upon the comic's release, the cropped version of the cover trended in memes across social media either being paired with captions or used as a reaction image on Twitter.

Origin

On April 24th, 2019, Marvel Comics published "Age Of X-Man: X-Tremists #3,"^[1] which was about "forbidden love" and followed a love story involving the X-men characters Blob and Psylocke.^[2] The cover art showed silhouettes of Blob and Psylocke holding hands in front of an orange sunset (shown below). The cover art was made by Marvel comic book artist Scott Wilson,^[1] although other outlets claim it was drawn by artist Rahzzah.^[11]

Despite the official April 24th release, the cover art of Psylocke and Blob was first shared in late January 2019, such as present in a blog post published on January 28th, 2019, by Henchman 4 Hire.^[3] On February 28th, 2019, Tumblr ^[4] user gantetsusan shared the image (shown below, left) in a post that gained over 260 notes in four years. On March 29th, 2019, iFunnyer ^[5] @Danklord_of_the_meme posted the image, writing, "Sooo Psylocke and Blob? Wtf lol," earning 10 smiles in four years (shown below, right).

Spread

Despite a 2019 origin, the image didn't become a common meme until the year 2022. Currently, the first-known, viral usage of the image in 2022 was uploaded on June 4th, 2022, to the subreddit /r/LoveForLandlords^[6] by a since-deleted Redditor who captioned it, "My Rentoid offered up his daughter as payment for last months rent. I accepted and we just had our wedding, here’s my favorite picture from it," gaining roughly 4,800 upvotes in 11 months (shown below, left). On July 4th, 2022, a screenshot of the Reddit post was shared by iFunnyer^[7] @Lodada, gaining roughly 18,500 smiles in 10 months. On July 12th, 2022, a since-deleted Redditor shared the image to /r/blursedimages,^[8] gaining roughly 17,100 upvotes in 10 months (shown below, right).

On September 2nd, 2022, Twitter^[9] user @feydemon tweeted the photo, captioning it, "girls with their valorant player bf," gaining roughly 90,800 likes in eight months (shown below, left). In early 2023, the image received an increase in discourse when its origin was discussed. The discourse started with a tweet sent by Twitter^[10] user @SOUPSHOGI on April 30th, 2023, which received roughly 55,600 likes in one day (shown below, right).
