Wolves Biting Lamb refers to a reaction image used in caption memes that features an oil painting of a serene lamb being bitten by several wolves. The picture, sourced from an upload to ArtStation, began being circulated on Twitter in February 2023.
Origin
On February 13th, 2022, Russian painter and ArtStation[1] user Konstantin Korobov uploaded a scan of an oil painting he titled Agnus, in reference to the Christian concept of the "Lamb of God." The post gathered over 11,000 views and 900 likes in roughly a year (seen below).
On February 22nd, 2022, Redditor[2] bolaazul then posted an image to the subreddit /r/antimeme, where the aforementioned photo was posted with a caption that read, "Seven Wolves Biting On A Lamb." The post gathered just 11 upvotes in over a year.
Spread
On January 29th, 2023, Twitter[3] user @Raphinh_ posted the earliest known tweet to use the aforementioned image as the punchline to a joke, gathering over 50 likes in roughly a month (seen below, left). On February 9th, Twitter[4] user @taibunnii posted a joke using the image as well, gathering over 2,500 likes in nearly 10 days (seen below, right).
On February 17th, 2023, Twitter[5] user @mountbellyache posted the image alongside a tweet that read, "how it feels to get constructive criticism that i asked for." The post gathered over 2,500 likes in three days (seen below, left).
