Wolverine Strapped To A Nuke, also known as Wolverine Nuke or Logan Subplot, is an exploitable image showing the X-Men character Wolverine (Logan) chained to a nuclear missile or bomb about to hit New York City. The original story featuring the picture was written by Seth Peck and Roland Boschi drew the panel for the comic book Fear Itself: Wolverine Vol 3, released in September 2011. The image went viral in August 2024 on X / Twitter after a user joked about "Logan's subplot," in the X-Men comic book. The meme resurfaced as a viral exploitable in mid-January 2025 as players of the hero shooter Marvel Rivals started to use it to express their dislike for the character in the video game.
On September 7th, 2011, the third issue of Fear Itself: Wolverine comic book[1] was released. The issue was drawn by Roland Boschi and includes a storyline where the mercenary group Strike has hijacked a helicarrier threatening New York, leading to escalating situations, including a moment in which Wolverine gets strapped to a nuclear bomb. On August 15th. 2024, X[2] user @Akumabat posted the Wolverine nuke panel as a meme, humorously commenting on the character's recurring absurd subplots while other X-Men heroes developed their adventures. The post amassed over 4.6 million views and 51,000 likes in six months. (seen below)
The image resurfaced as a viral exploitable meme in mid-January 2025, particularly among players of the hero shooter Marvel Rivals, who began using the image to express their dislike for the character's portrayal in the game.
For instance, on January 30th, 2025, X[3] user @slothhana photoshopped the Wolverine nuke meme in a Marvel Rivals map, amassing more than 1.3 million views and 70,000 likes in three days.
On January 29th, TikTok[4] user @dxntcxre posted a photo using the meme format as an image macro about Wolverine players in Marvel Rivals being annoying, receiving over 154,000 likes and 890 comments in six days.
