Wii Fit Trainer is the computer animated personal trainer from the fitness video game Wii Fit for the Nintendo Wii console. The fitness instructor gained notoriety online after she was revealed as a playable character in the fighting game Super Smash Bros. unveiled at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

Origin

The video game Wii Fit was released for the Nintendo Wii console on December 1st, 2007, featuring a female virtual personal trainer that guides the player through various exercises. On June 11th, 2013, Nintendo announced that the franchise-crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and Wii U consoles would launch in 2014 during their presentation at the E3 conference. In the reveal trailer, the Wii Fit personal trainer was presented as a new playable character (shown below).

The same day, Redditor Tmoseley20 submitted a post to the /r/Games[1] subreddit about the Wii Fit Trainer's inclusion in the upcoming video game, which gained over 1,800 up votes and 530 comments in the first 48 hours. On June 12th, 2013, Redditor MrBison123 submitted an image macro featuring a screen capture of the Wii Fit Trainer to the /r/gaming[2] subreddit, which included the caption "I'll help make you fit / into a coffin" (shown below, left). Several hours later, Redditor lit0st submitted a gallery of Wii Fit Trainer image macros to /r/gaming.[3] Within the next 24 hours, both posts accumulated more than 1,000 up votes. Also on June 12th, the Cheezburger site Memebase[6] posted an image macro with the caption "first we will burn your calories / Then we will burn the rest of your body" (shown below, right).



On June 13th, Redditor DoYouLikeMySweater submitted another image macro with the caption "Your ideal heart rate / is zero" (shown below, left) to /r/gaming,[7] garnering upwards of 17,000 up votes and 900 comments in the following 16 hours. The same day, Redditors MyLilDashie and herehaveamedkit submitted manga-style illustrations (shown below, middle, right) of the Wii Fit Trainer to the rule 34 subreddit.[4][5]
