Wife Thermometer or Wife Detector is an exploitable meme format in which a hand is shown aiming an infrared thermometer at a woman, resulting in the LED screen reading, "Wife." The original version of the meme was posted to X / Twitter in early February 2025 by user @roggle16 and depicts the thermometer pointing at the Blue Archive character Shiraishi Utaha. The meme is mostly used to share artwork of one's waifu in which the thermometer is edited on the left and the character appears on the right.

Origin

On February 6th, 2025, X^[1] user @roggle16 posted a meme depicting a person aiming an infrared thermometer at Shiraishi Utaha from Blue Archive, the thermometer reading "Wife," garnering over 28,000 likes and 2,300 reposts in just under three weeks.

The earliest known variant of the meme was posted by X^[2] user @M_VeraUC on February 11th, 2025, as a quote-repost to the original, replacing Utaha with Kosaka Wakamo from Blue Archive, garnering over 14,000 likes in two weeks.

Spread

On February 13th, 2025, the original meme was posted to the subreddit /r/BlueArchive,^[3] garnering over 2,500 upvotes in two weeks. That same day, X^[4] user @tententempe posted a version of the meme featuring VTuber Ouro Kronii, garnering over 11,000 likes in the same span of time.

On February 21st, X^[5] user @Lughostin posted a version of the meme in which the thermometer is pointed at Sadako Yamamura from The Ring franchise, garnering over 57,000 likes in four days.
