About

Why Would A Man Be There is a catchphrase and TikTok audio that stems from a June 2023 episode of the podcast Emergency Intercom, hosted by Gen Z YouTubers Enya Umanzor and Drew Phillips. The clip of Enja loudly repeating, "Why would a man be there?" during a discussion of her friends planning a girls-only vacation came to be used as a viral TikTok sound effect in 2024 and 2025.

Origin

On June 30th, 2023, YouTubers[1] Enya Umanzor and Drew Phillips posted an episode of their podcast Emergency Intercom in which, at roughly the one hour, two-minute timestamp, Enya talks about planning a vacation with just her friends and their future children. During the discussion, Enya has an outburst about how she is making these plans without even considering her future partners, exclaiming, "Why would a man be there, it's pissing me off, like why would you want to be there?"

The scene was clipped and reposted to TikTok[2] by the page @enyasbleachedbrows on June 30th, 2023, where it gathered over 2 million views and 300,000 likes in two years.

The sound effect first came to be used to joke about people's pets reacting negatively to male visitors like plumbers and maintenance men visiting an otherwise all-girl household, as seen in a May 9th, 2024, video posted by TikToker[3] @princesseloisey that gathered over 5 million plays and 1 million likes in a year.
