Why Is It Lowkey Thursday Today or Why Is It Lowkey Sunday Today is a catchphrase used in a series of image macros that display the text in a variety of ways. The original meme, "Why is it lowkey Sunday today," was posted to X / Twitter in 2022 and became the subject of memes over the following years, with many featuring the day "Thursday" instead of "Sunday."

On May 1st, 2022, X[1] user @prodlexington posted a graphic featuring the text, "Why is it lowkey Sunday today," on it, garnering over 4,300 likes in two years. This is the earliest known account to share the meme.

The meme garnered viral spread over the following years. On October 23rd, 2022, it was reposted to iFunny,[2] garnering over 200 smiles in two years. On February 15th, 2024, Instagram[3] user scalepapi reposted it with "Sunday" changed to "Thursday," garnering over 1,300 likes in 10 months.

On April 11th, 2024, Instagram[4] user several_small_possums posted another graphic featuring the phrase "why is it lowkey Thursday today," which was reposted by Instagram[5] user senorlennon on April 21st, garnering over 40 and 1,200 likes, respectively, in eight months. On June 20th, X[6] user @stickydacat posted a graphic featuring the phrase that gained over 1,600 likes in six months.
On August 15th, the Cool Math Games (@coolmathgames) Instagram[7] account posted a version of the meme that gained over 70,000 likes in four months. The account continued to post memes using the phrasing to Instagram[8][9] over the following months, with two August 22nd and September 5th posts garnering over 100,000 likes and 67,000 likes, respectively, in three months.
On September 26th, 2024, Instagram[10] user zspongeb0bb posted a version of the meme featuring an image of Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob SquarePants, garnering over 39,000 likes in three months.
