"Why Doesn't Mine Look Like That?" is a memorable quote uttered by Homer Simpson on the animated television series The Simpsons. Online, people edit the scene, in which Homer fails to build a barbecue pit, replacing the pit with other failures.

Origin

On April 11th, 1999, the Simpsons episode "Mom and Pop Art" aired.[1] In the episode, Homer attempts to build a BBQ pit. In one shot, he holds up a picture of the pit and looks at the image in awe. Then he pulls the picture away to reveal his failed attempt to which he says, "why doesn't mine look like that?"

10 years later, on January 22nd, 2010, YouTuber tiagolemos uploaded a clip of the episode to YouTube. The post (shown below) received more than 412,000 views in eight years.

In 2013, MemeCenter[2] user caretaker published a photoshopped version of the scene, replacing Homer's face with that of race face (shown below, left).

Two years later, in February 2015, Imgflip[3] user AnnHascalovitz posted a variation of the moment, adding the caption "How I feel about my thesis" to the image. Within three years, the post has received more than 3,000 views.

On March 19th 2016, Facebook [4] user Codster9 posted a variation in which WWE CEO Vince McMahon's head is placed over Homer and the logo's for the professional wrestling events Next Takeover and Wrestlemania are placed over the two pits. The post (shown below, right) received more than 1,300 reactions and 1,100 shares in two years.

On July 26th, 2018, Redditor [5] ciocanmihai shared an image in the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit in which the failed BBQ pit features flags from various communist. The post (shown below) received more than 19,000 points (89% upvoted) and 1,300 comments in 24 hours.
