Why Are You Booing Me? I'm Right refers to a reaction image taken from The Eric Andre Show of comedian Hannibal Buress addressing a crowd with the phrase "Why are you booing me? I'm right!" The image began being used with unpopular truths several years after the episode aired.

Origin

On December 31st, 2012, The Eric Andre Show aired "The Eric André New Year's Eve Spooktacular."[1][2] During the opening monologue, Eric Andre says he is excited for "two more years of Obama. Buress corrects him by saying there would actually be four more years of Obama's presidency, to which the audience boos. Buress responds "Why are you booing me? I'm right!" (shown below). The clip was uploaded to YouTube by colette brando on February 20th, 2015, and gained over 29,000 views.

Spread

On October 18th, 2014, Tumblr user johncenasmixtape[3] posted a screenshot of the moment, gaining over 140,000 notes (shown below).


Over the following few years, the image spread through Tumblr as a reaction image used with unpopular truths. On March 16th, 2015, it was included in a compilation of Hannibal Buress moments on Buzzfeed. [4] That summer, it began spreading around Tumblr as a reaction image added to certain posts. For example, user cynnamynn[5] added the image to a post about losing followers. The post has gained 87,000 notes (shown below).



The image also began being used as an exploitable in 2017. On May 12th, 2017, popular Tumblr imgayjokes[6] changed "I'm right" to "I'm gay" and gained over 50,000 notes (shown below, left). On November 5th, Tumblr user magiashley[7] uploaded two edits in which Buress says "You" and "Me?", gaining 16,000 notes (shown below, right).
