Who Says I Can't Wear My Converse, sometimes identified as the phrasal template Me (A Liberal) is a TikTok trend inspired by a comedy video posted by the TikTok account for conservative dating service The Right Stuff. After the account posted a video mocking liberals set to the song "La La Land" by Demi Lovato, various TikTokers posted themselves doing liberal things and mimicking the TikToker's mannerisms. The trend began in March 2023.

Origin

On March 20th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @daterightstuff posted a video where he lipsynced and danced to the song "La La Land" by Demi Lovato, with a text overlay on the video that read, "How liberals feel walking up to their first protest," gathering over 1 million plays and 90,000 likes in ten days (seen below).

Spread

Various TikTokers duetted the original post by @daterightstuff, with TikToker^[2] @hausofkd posting a video on March 23rd, 2023, saying that the dance was "camp," which gathered over 780,000 plays and 100,000 likes in a week (seen below, left). On March 25th, TikToker^[3] @hey_its_joeyyy posted a similar video duet, gathering over 2 million views and 390,000 likes in five days (seen below, right).

Other TikTokers began to parody the original post by @daterightstuff, with TikToker^[4] @skum.rag posting a video on March 24th, 2023 that gathered over 1 million plays and 200,000 likes in six days (seen below, left). On March 25th, TikToker^[5] @sw4g.b1tchh posted a video that gathered over 500,000 plays and 71,000 likes in five days (seen below, right).
