Who Is This For? is satirical pop culture survey that asks "Twitter"/memes/sites/twitter users to describe the stereotypes of a particular artist's core demographic, audience or fanbase, using the phrasal template "who does [subject X] make [medium Y] for?"
Origin
On July 6th, 2018, Twitter[1] user @industryplant tweeted, 'who does ______ make music for?' thread 💕quote, don't reply💕" The post (shown below) received more than 1,300 retweets and 3,900 likes in less than one week.
Spread
Over the next week, people resonded to @industryplant's various threads on the question.
On July 7th, Twitter[2] user @madblackthot tweeted in response to "Who does Rihanna make music for with "people who smoke weed, people who mind their business, or the intersection of both." The post (shown below, left) received more than 3,500 retweets and 14,000 likes in five days.
Additionally, that day, Twitter[3] user @LinneaTheCake tweeted in response to a thread about Ariana Grande, "girls who reply “okay sweetie” when they lose an argument." The post (shown below, center) received more than 6,500 retweets and 33,000 likes in one week.
The following day, Twitter[4] user @valtersin tweeted about Drake, "locals who need a quick instagram caption." The post (shown below, right) received more than 2,700 retweets and 21,000 likes in four days.
On July 11th, Mashable [5] published an article about the meme.
