Who Is This Diva? also known as This Diva or Look at This Diva, refers to a slang catchphrase used to caption image macros of characters, celebrities and other subjects to champion their femininity and queerness. This Diva is commonly used on Twitter / X within Stan Twitter circles consisting of LGBTQ+ and cisgender female users. Labeling someone "this diva" or saying, "Look at this diva," is similar to the use of Slay or calling someone Mother.

Origin

On May 4th, 2023, X[1] user @abjortia posted a meme that quote tweeted a photo of a burial for a pet squirrel in 1850, writing, "this diva…" The quote received over 56,000 likes in a year (shown below).

Spread

Going into 2023, others on the platform used This Diva in similar quotes and tweets. For instance, an early adopter was X[2] user @bklynb4by who posted a tweet on May 5th, 2023, captioning an image of the Luna Ghost, "this diva…" gaining over 5,400 likes in a year (shown below).

Later in 2023, usage of This Diva mixed with other LGBTQ+ slang terms in Slang Overload posts. For instance, on July 9th, 2023, X[3] user @vveetto tweeted a photo of the Piranha Plant from Super Mario, captioning it, "Nintendo mothered so hard with the concept of this diva," earning over 9,500 likes in a year (shown below).

This Diva memes became increasingly abstract by late 2023. For instance, on November 23rd, 2023, X[4] user @folieadieux quoted a video of a watermelon getting lava poured inside of it, captioning it, "the fact that she didn’t even crack when so much lava was poured inside her…. this diva……." receiving over 53,000 likes in 10 months (shown below).

This Diva memes continued to go viral on X[5][6] in 2024.

This Diva memes were also shared on TikTok, among other social media sites, during the same timeframe. For instance, on September 6th, 2024, TikToker[7] @f333lz shared an edit of actress Danielle Brooks' character in the upcoming Minecraft Movie, captioned, "this diva," in the description, gaining over 256,400 plays and 58,000 likes in 13 days (shown below).
