"Who are you quoting?" is a stock response to the use of greentext on the 4chan board for Otaku Culture, /jp/. Greentext is discouraged on /jp/, resulting in it being mocked when used. The first known example of the term being used was by an anonymous user on /jp/ on January 14th, 2010.

Since it was first used, the use of the term has spread to other 4chan boards including /a/, /s4s/, and /b/. It is often used to troll new posters on 4chan, commonly known as "newfags".
