"Who Are You People" is an reaction image macro series based on a dialogue scene form the Nickelodeon animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants. The quote is uttered by the character Patrick, who yells the line after noticing a number of eyes under his rock.

Origin

On May 5th, 2001, the episode of SpongeBob Squarepants entitled "Prehibernation Week" aired in the United States. In the episode, Patrick notices a number of creatures living under his rock and yells, "Who are you people?"[1]

Nearly a decade later, on October 17th, 2010 YouTuber SuperGtafail published a clip of the moment on the site. The post (shown below) received more than 370,000 views in eight years.

That day, FunnyJunk [3] user KBangin posted an image macro of the moment with the caption bearing Patrick's quote. The post (shown below, left) received more than 15 upvotes in about eight years.

Several months later, on May 8th, 2011, Blogspot[2] user micorazo-n posted a GIF of the moment underneath a number of users that they blocked on the platform (shown below).

Later that year, on August 20th, the image was used as the punchline to a Reddit [4] thread entitled "Every time I scroll through my Facebook Newsfeed…" The post received more than 175 points (87% upvoted) in seven years.
