Whitest Whites is a reaction image of the dial of a laundry machine turned to the "Whitest Whites" section. The image serves as the punchline to jokes about stereotypes about white people.
Origin
The earliest known use of the image in this context was posted on May 6th, 2018 by Twitter[4] user @battlemejadin who posted the image next to another Twitter user saying, "When I lived in California I was Californian. I live in Hawaii, I'm Hawaiian. Sorry, not sorry, if you're offended." They captioned the post, "and the haoles are back at it." The post (shown below) received more than 4,000 retweets and 12,000 likes in one month.
Spread
That day Redditor [1] HeughJass on the /r/dankmemes subreddit. The image, in this case, was accompanied by the caption 'Singing along to a rap song by yourself and saying 'nigga' a little extra hard." The post (shown below, left) received more than 12,000 points (95% upvoted) and 100 comments in one month.
Later that day, social media account[2] White People Humor posted a variation with the caption, "When you’re leaving your parent’s house and you say 'See you later, Alligator,' and your mom replies with, 'After a while, Crocodile.'" The post (shown below, center) was later posted to the /r/MemeEconomy [3] subreddit, where it received more than 27,000 points (90% upvoted) and 230 comments in one month.
Throughout the next month, people posted versions of the meme, particularly on /r/dankmemes (examples below, right)
