About
Where's My Dad? I'm All Alone, continued I’m Too Small To Be Here on My Own, is a viral TikTok video of a kid singing the song "Where's My Dad?" from Finding Nemo: The Musical while holding and animating a Nemo puppet. The video was originally posted in July 2023, by the account @bcctplay adminned by the Brick Community Children's Theatre (BCCT) in Brick, New Jersey, to promote its rendition of Finding Nemo Jr. The boy singing "Where's my dad? I'm all alone" became a TikTok meme soon after, trending as a greenscreen template and exploitable. Usage of the template centered on scenarios in which someone would need their dad for assistance, such as amid car trouble or doing taxes.
Origin
On July 18th, 2023, the TikTok[1] account @bcctplay (adminned by the Brick Community Children's Theatre in Brick, New Jersey[2]) uploaded a video of a male, child performer with a Nemo fish puppet, singing the song "Where's My Dad?"[3] from Finding Nemo: The Musical. Over the course of one week, the video gained roughly 8.6 million plays and 1.1 million likes (shown below, left). On July 19th, 2023, TikToker[4] @neens.com posted a duet with @bcctplay that read, "Me when my bank account goes in the negatives." The TikTok gained roughly 366,400 plays and 39,300 likes in six days, becoming the first memetic usage of the video.
Spread
Going into July 2023, the video gained increased usage, specifically after TikToker[5] @igreenscreenthings posted a greenscreen template on July 20th, 2023, that was made for CapCut. The template gained roughly 2.2 million plays and 208,300 likes in five days (shown below, left). Usage of the template then surfaced, such as a video posted by TikToker[6] @matalanata on July 21st, 2023, that had text reading, "When the mechanic starts telling me everything that's wrong w my car but I only wanted an oil change," gaining roughly 1.5 million plays and 139,500 likes in four days (shown below, right).
Memetic usage of the original video's TikTok sound[7] persisted going into late July 2023.
