About
When's Mahvel? is an intentionally misspelled quote popularized by streamer and Let's Player Woolie Madden during his time with the Super Best Friends Play channel. The quote, an offshoot of the Mahvel, Baybee! meme, was used as a running gag as Woolie begged to play Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the channel.
Origin
On April 28th, 2013, Super Best Friends, then known as Two Best Friends Play, uploaded an episode for their Machinima series where they played Injustice, a fighting game featuring DC Universe characters. Throughout the video, Woolie Madden sends Matt and Pat messages asking "When's Mahvel?" before showing up outside their house with a sign featuring the phrase (shown below).
Spread
On July 25th, 2014, the channel finally played Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (shown below, left). On July 13th of the same year, the official Capcom USA Twitter account tweeted a reference to the meme[1] (shown below, right).
The meme continued to be referenced by Super Best Best Friends fans long after the peak of game's popularity. For example, user GeniusAmongFools[3] posted a meme in /r/MvC on February 15th, 2015 (shown below, left). On November 30th, 2016, NeoGAF user miku[4] posted a photoshop featuring the phrase in a thread (shown below, right).
On February 11th, 2018, while serving as a commenter at EVO, Woolie said the game's time was over. This led Redditor jazaniac to write, "Man from the “when’s mahvel” meme no longer cares about mahvel."[2]
