When You Drop X Between The Seats is an exploitable meme format that uses an image macro of a disassembled car, supposedly taken apart after dropping something between the seats like a Perc 30 or M&M+. The original was shared on Twitter in late 2021 and became a template across Instagram and Reddit throughout 2022.

Origin

On September 10th, 2021, Twitter[1] user BrendanDaGawd posted a meme that captioned an image[2] of a taken apart car with, "when you drop a perc in between the seats." Over the course of nine months, the tweet received roughly 5,300 likes (shown below).



Spread

On September 12th, 2021, the tweet was shared to /r/BlackPeopleTwitter,[3] where it earned roughly 1,000 upvotes in nine months. On September 19th, 2021, the tweet was shared by Instagram[4] page trenbolone.papi where it earned roughly 2,300 likes in nine months.

On September 19th, 2021, the Instagram[8] page god_dangit_bobby posted a video from Breaking Bad with the caption, earning roughly 8,100 views and 1,600 likes in nine months (shown below).



On October 22nd, 2021, the Instagram[5] page uncle_turab exploited the template, photoshopping a Fortnite dab pen cart called a "Cartnite" over where it read "perc," earning over 620 likes in eight months (shown below, left). On December 14th, 2021, the Instagram[6] page spooked_memes.v4 edited in an image of smiley face balloons, earning roughly 2,400 likes in six months (shown below, right).



On May 1st, 2022, the Instagram[7] page squidysgalaxy posted a version showing M&Ms, earning roughly 11,300 likes in three weeks (shown below). The aforementioned iteration inspired increased usage of the template going into the remainder of May 2022.
