When The Chile Is Tea But The Finna Is Gag, also known as What The Chile or When Chile Is Tea But The Finna Is Gag, Sis I’m Dead As A Chile, is a viral tweet and catchphrase posted by X / Twitter user @yasscorrset in mid-February 2025 using a combination of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and queer internet slang terms like “finna,” "tea" and “gag.” The cryptic tweet gained usage on TikTok in early March 2025 as the "What the Chile" meme, as well as a viral soundbite of American singer Ethel Cain reading the original tweet, which is used as part of FlopTok memes.

On February 15th, 2025, X[1] user @yasscorrset posted a GIF of model and influencer Alex Consani with a confusing caption combining AAVE and queer slangs, writing, "When the chile is tea but the finna is gag💀💀 Sis im dead as a chile😭😭😭." The tweet (seen below) amassed 133,000 views and 4,000 likes in a month.

On February 27th, 2025, American singer Ethel Cain read the "When the Chile Is Tea" tweet during a livestream (seen below), which was later shared by a fan account of the singer on X,[2] amassing more than 36,000 views and 1,700 likes in a week.
Ethel Cain's clip became a viral soundbite on TikTok in the next few days, inspiring FlopTok memes. For instance, also on February 27th, TikTok[3] user @heart2kie posted an edit featuring the catchphrase and a clip of model Alex Consani (seen below), which garnered over 113,000 likes in a week.
