When She Looks Through Your Phone But All She Finds Is… is an exploitable image macro series using the phrasal template "When she looks through your phone but all she fins is X," "X" being something comedic she found on the phone, implying she was expecting to find something inappropriate. The first known use of the meme was posted to Facebook in 2017 and became increasingly popular over the following years, including in versions where edited Google searches are added to the bottom of the meme.
Origin
On June 2nd, 2017, Facebook[1] page Car memes posted an image macro using a drawing of a woman looking through a man's phone, captioned, "When she's snooping through your phone but all she can find is car wallpapers," garnering over 5,200 shares and 15,000 reactions in six years (shown below). This is the earliest known version of the meme.
Spread
The meme gained viral spread over the following years on sites including Facebook, Instagram and X, formerly Twitter. The memes often feature new captions, or an image of several search queries attached to the bottom of the image. On May 9th, 2022, Instagram[2] user trashcanpaul posted a version of the meme about stealing ducks from the park, garnering over 96,000 likes in a year (shown below, left). On May 15th, Instagram[3] user feedthemcats posted a version of the meme that gained over 174,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).
On August 21st, X[4] user @wallstmemes posted a version of the meme about finding your partner looking up stock market terms, garnering over 4,000 likes in a year. On February 6th, 2023, the Dr. Nikola Tesla Facebook[5] page posted a version of the meme about Nikola Tesla that gained over 5,500 reactions and 500 shares in seven months (shown below, left). On April 8th, Instagram[6] user broscience.co posted a version of the meme that gained over 65,000 likes in five months (shown below, right).
